Zoom Meetings
UVA Zoom Home
UVA Zoom is a specially negotiated Zoom license that allows UVA Academic (Agency 207) students, faculty, and staff to meet with colleagues across Grounds or around the world using video, voice, and screen sharing. It is different from personal Zoom accounts.
Get Zoom
- Create a UVA Zoom account.
- UVA Zoom accounts are available to all Academic (Agency 207) students, faculty, and staff. This does not include University of Virginia Physicians Group, UVAHealth, UVA Community Health, and UVA Wise.
- If you already have a personal Zoom account, you can move the existing account to the UVA account.
- Download Zoom (or it will download automatically when you start or join your first Zoom meeting).

How to Host a Meeting:
- After logging in, select "My Meetings" and then "Schedule a Meeting" (for more info, watch the "Scheduling Meetings" video).
- See Zoom Security Best Practices to prevent uninvited guests from disrupting your meetings.
- Using an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter in your meeting or webinar (Quick Start Guide)
- If you receive a request for an ASL interpreter from an audience member, contact the Student Disability Access Center (SDAC) to coordinate an interpreter for your Zoom session/webinar. SDAC may also contact you directly to let you know that someone in your session will be using an ASL interpreter as an accommodation.
- For a typical Zoom session/meeting, invite the interpreter just as you would any other participant. A person relying on ASL interpretation has the option to assure the interpreter is always visible. The viewer will “pin the video” so it is always visible to them. It does not affect a recording or what other viewers will see.
- ZOOM WEBINAR NOTE: When using an interpreter for a webinar rather than a session, they will need to be added as a panelist and be visible for the entirety of the event.
- You may be asked to use an ASL interpreter in addition to providing live captions. That is a valid accommodation request. Follow additional guidance for providing the live captioning service.
- Use Zoom's Live Transcription feature in your meetings.
Use Zoom's Live Transcription feature in your meetings.
See here for Zoom support documentation on how to use the feature. If Zoom AI Companion is enabled in a meeting, the generated Meeting Summaries will be sent to the meeting host only. The host should evaluate the summary for accuracy and content and make any desired edits in Zoom before sharing it with meeting participants or other parties.
Restrictions on Zoom in Some Countries & Regions
In order to comply with U.S. regulations, Zoom cannot be accessed by users with an IP address originating in a country or region subject to economic and trade sanctions enforced by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
See Zoom Restricted countries or regions for more information.
