UVA faculty, staff, and students have access to Groups through their Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) accounts at UVA. Before signing in to portal.office.com, confirm your eligibility for an account.

What's the Difference Between Microsoft Teams & Groups?
Teams and Groups both have cloud collaboration features for communication, coordinating group efforts, and sharing documents. While many aspects of Teams and Groups overlap, some features are only available to either Teams or Groups.
If you want all features listed in the comparison table below, you must first create a Group, and then add a new Team to it.

Create & Manage a Group
Groups can be created in Outlook (recommended) or when creating a Plan in Planner. All Teams and Groups need to be renewed annually by an owner or they will expire. For more information on expirations and renewals, see Can I restore a deleted or expired Team or Group?
